Unlocking the enigma of The Cintacor Island Resort

“Longing for the sun, here we come

To the island without name

Longing for the sun, here we come

On the island, many miles away from home.”

Scorpions

Well, in this case, we have a name for that ‘island’ and a location too. But before we go ahead and tell you the name, let us tell you something about the island. Situated on the Arabian Sea, it takes a 15-minute boat ride from the Karwar Port, Karnataka, to reach a private island that is covered in lush green forest and a state-of-the-art private resort that not only provides you with an excellent time to unwind and relax but also complete privacy and freedom from the maddening crowd of the city life.

Now a little history about the island. Back in Vasco Da Gama’s seafaring days, he discovered the island. Ever since that day, the Portuguese controlled and owned this beautiful turtle-shaped island. Nearly 400 years later, the island was handed over to an Indian local family, who later leased the Island to a group of luxury hotels. The island is ancient and it has seen a lot of major changes in dynasties, including the Vijaynagar Empire. Within the island, there is a fort which was built by Basilanga Nayak in 1705 AD to defend it from the British invaders. The ruins of the fort are still found on the island and is a place of interest. Without further ado, the name of the island is Kurumgad Island, and it has a lovely, picturesque private resort. Yes, you have guessed right, we are talking about the Cintacor Island Resort. The resort has 15 sea-facing cabins which can host a maximum of 45 guests, a restaurant, a bar, and an infinity pool from where watching the sunset is highly recommended. The best part of this resort is the sound of the rustling of leaves from the surrounding forest all over and the constant sound of the waves lapping up at the beach. You can set up some deck chairs, lose yourself in the sounds of nature, and indulge in a beautiful uninterrupted time with Mother Gaia.

The closest airport to Cintacor Island Resort is the Dabolim Airport, Goa and the closest railway station is Karwar Railway Station. From there you can take a cab and head directly to the Karwar port then you can take the ferry service to the Resort.

The closest island to the Cintacor Island Resort is Devgad Island where you can find a French Lighthouse which dates back to 1932. The lighthouse is manned by two people who are also the only two residents of Devgad Island. You can take a trip to the island which can be arranged by the Resort officials.

While on the island you can expect a total immersive experience with nature and the flora and fauna. The island is the habitat of otters, terrapins, and sea eagles. There are many jungle trails and vantage points from where you can see the Arabian Sea’s unbroken view. For miles, you would be able to see the blue oceans, the sound of waves, and the gentle sea breeze to keep you company. While hiking through the trails you can also see the temple of Lord Narsimha, who according to the local folklore had made his way through the creek that leads up to the island creating an intriguing rock formation fissure known as the Mystery Creek. However as per the geologists that is due to tectonic activities and earthquakes that took place 300 million years ago pushing up the bedrock and as a result created the fissure which is made up of rocks of antiquity.

This is another favourite tourist spot which is a short hike away from the resort. Apart from that if you are interested you can also partake in Jet Skiing, Banana Boat Riding, Dolphin watching, fishing, or experiencing the myriad marine life that wash up on the tidal pools, etc. The Resort authorities arrange all these things. The Resort is perched in the perfect location away from the cacophony of daily life which can serve as a Family and Romantic getaway for and with your loved ones. The experience will leave you rejuvenated and with a beautiful tan as you bask in the sun and lots of fun and intimate moments that you can treasure for life.

Discovering Hay on Wye: A Bibliophile's Paradise

By Anwesh Ganguli

If you're a lover of both travel and books, then you're in for a treat. Nestled in our charming blue planet is a place known as Book Town, and its original name is Hay on Wye.

Situated on the southeast bank of the river Wye, it resides in the northeastern part of the Brecon Beacons National Park, just north of the Black Mountains. This bookish town shares borders with Wales and Herefordshire, England.

Back in the early 60s Richard Boothe opened the first bookstore in the Old Fire Station which later by the 1970s turned into a full-fledged town with more than half a dozen bookstores. Hence, aptly the name “The Town of Books”. It is also said later Richard Boothe was the self-proclaimed King of the Hay and he made his horse the Prime Minister of the place.

What makes Hay special is its abundance of antiquarian bookstores, cozy pubs, and a quaint market with numerous antique shops.

Hay on Wye is a bibliophile's paradise, offering a plethora of bookstores catering to various genres, from bestsellers to beautifully bound antiquities. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely English breakfast before exploring the town's charming streets and book emporiums at their own pace. Nature enthusiasts can opt for hikes along the trails of Brecon Beacons National Park or kayaking in the scenic Wye River. For those seeking tranquility, camping amidst the mountains provides a serene retreat.

Among the town's attractions are Hay Castle, the Hay Market, Hay Buff, and its antique shops. The castle offers insights into its feudal past, while the bustling market showcases local produce and crafts every Thursday. Hay Buff offers breathtaking views of the Welsh Mountains on clear mornings.

And of course, the highlight for book lovers: the must-visit bookstores. Here are some recommendations: :

1. Richard Booth’s Bookshop, 44 Lion St

2. The Poetry Bookshop

3. Hay on Wye Booksellers, 13-14 High Town

4. Murder and Mayhem, 5 Lion St

5. Addyman Books, 39 Lion St

After a day of exploration, satisfy your hunger and fatigue at one of Hay's hotels, B&Bs, pubs, or local cafes, where you can indulge in locally brewed coffee or a pint of Guinness.

Whether you're a bookworm or simply crave peace and nature, a visit to this sleepy yet enchanting bookish town is a must in your lifetime!

Talk to us for your customised tour of this dreamy book town in Wales.

Khajjiar: Discovering the Mini Switzerland of India

As I embarked on my journey to Khajjiar, nestled in the serene embrace of Himachal Pradesh, I had no idea that this hidden gem would captivate my soul in ways I never imagined.

Falling in Love with Khajjiar's Charm:

Khajjiar's picturesque landscapes, embraced by the tranquil ambiance and the refreshing mountain breeze, immediately stole my heart. The lush green meadows and the snow-capped peaks in the distance seemed like a masterpiece painted just for me.

My Tips for a Personalized Khajjiar Experience:

Best Time to Visit: The ideal time to visit Khajjiar is during the summer months, from April to June, when the weather is pleasant and perfect for exploring the outdoors. Avoid visiting during the monsoon season, from July to September, as heavy rainfall may hinder outdoor activities.

Reaching Khajjiar: The nearest airport is the Gaggal Airport in Dharamshala, approximately 123 kilometers away. Pathankot Railway Station is the closest railhead, about 120 kilometers from Khajjiar. From there, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Khajjiar.

Accommodation Options: While there are limited accommodation options in Khajjiar, consider booking in advance, especially during the peak tourist seasons, to secure your preferred stay. Options range from budget guesthouses to cozy homestays and hotels with picturesque views.

Local Transportation: Upon reaching Khajjiar, you can explore the area on foot or hire a local taxi for convenient transportation. Engage with local drivers who can provide insights into the best places to visit and hidden gems around Khajjiar.

Essential Items to Pack: Pack appropriate clothing for the weather, including light woolens during the summer and heavy woolens for the winter months. Comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, and sunglasses are essential for outdoor activities. Don't forget to carry a first-aid kit and any necessary medications.

Exploring Khajjiar Meadows: Spend ample time exploring the Khajjiar Meadows and the surrounding forests. Consider taking a guided trek to fully immerse yourself in the natural beauty and to learn about the local flora and fauna from experienced guides.

Local Cuisine and Dining: Indulge in the local Himachali cuisine, known for its rich flavors and warmth. Don't miss the opportunity to savor traditional dishes such as Dham, Sidu, Babru, and Chana Madra, which are available at local eateries and restaurants.

Respecting Local Culture: Engage respectfully with the local community, and be mindful of their customs and traditions. Seek permission before taking photographs of people or religious sites, and dress modestly, especially when visiting religious places.

My Soulful Connection with Khajjiar:

Khajjiar's serene beauty stirred my soul, offering moments of introspection and joy that I carry with me to this day. The tranquil stillness of the lake and the embrace of the surrounding forests instilled a sense of peace that remains etched in my heart.
